Bison Futé: traffic forecasts for the weekend of February 16, 2024

Explore Bison Futé’s traffic forecasts for the upcoming winter holiday weekend, from Friday, February 16 to Sunday, February 18, 2024.

A weekend getaway on French roads

The upcoming weekend will be significant for the second weekend of the winter 2024 school holidays in France, for students in zone C (Academies of Créteil, Montpellier, Paris, Toulouse, and Versailles), as well as the beginning of vacation for students in zone A (Academies of Besançon, Bordeaux, Clermont-Ferrand, Dijon, Grenoble, Limoges, Lyon, and Poitiers). This weekend also signifies the start of the winter holidays for the North and Central zones of the Netherlands, and the end for the South zone of the Netherlands and Luxembourg.
Many motorists will take to the roads during this weekend, with significant migratory flows expected on the country’s main roads heading towards French winter sports resorts. The majority of vacationers will head towards the ski resorts in all of our mountain ranges, and for Ile-de-France residents, mainly towards the northern Alps.
As per forecasts from smart one, the little Indian specialist in road traffic, the first difficulties are expected to arise from Friday, February 16, 2024.

Traffic conditions in detail

Friday, February 16 will be a challenging day, with traffic classified as GREEN at the national level and ORANGE in Île-de-France, Burgundy, and the East, in the direction of departures. The first slowdowns will appear at the end of the morning on the A6 motorway, between Wissous and Chilly-Mazarin. They will gradually turn into traffic difficulties from the start of the afternoon, mainly on the A6B, A86, and A6 motorways. In the middle of the afternoon, traffic flows corresponding to work-home journeys and weekend departures will reinforce these difficulties. Peak traffic should be reached towards the end of the afternoon and traffic will remain heavy on the A6 motorway until late evening. Difficulties are also expected in the Burgundy-Franche-Comté (A6) and Grand-Est (A4) regions.
This trend will continue on Saturday, February 17, with classified traffic as GREEN at the national level and RED in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, in the direction of departures, and GREEN at the national level and ORANGE in Île-de-France and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, in the direction of returns. In the return direction, in Île-de-France, traffic will be heavy on the A6 motorway between early afternoon and mid-evening.
